Welcome! Thanks for visiting My Experimental Year.
I’m on a mission to take back my time and do with it what will inspire me to live a more fulfilled and meaningful life.
Like most Americans, right out of college and through my 20s – I worked hard to build a life of material goods that would act as the measure of my worth and success.
In 2010, I took my first solo trip to Europe for 18 days and I was hooked to the world of exploration. I was quite naive at the time, I couldn’t even fathom the thought of making money outside of the office.
For the next 6 years, I put in 12 hour days, sometimes even 7 days a week for 50 weeks out of the year, so that I could enjoy those two weeks to myself, to go wherever my heart desired, which was usually somewhere abroad exploring culture, exploring life.
When I turned 30, a lot of things changed for me in a very short period of time. My values started to change, I know longer found joy in just making money. That’s what my world was about, make money to pay my bills because I kept upgrading because I was making more money! The crazy 8’s as Tony Robbins calls it.
Something needed to change. In an extremely unhappy time, one of my dearest friends, Margot, invited me to join her and some other friends on Yacht Week in Croatia.
I thought this was just what I needed to cheer me up and get me back to thinking straight, back on the program that society had conveniently built for me.
Instead I came back with a desire to leave everything I had built behind, to rid myself of the unnecessary responsibilities I had given myself from such a young age, to face my fears and take risks.
So that’s what I did. In this period of ‘deprogramming’, as I like to call it, I have found love, I have found work, and I am experimenting to find a system that fits my needs at this stage of my life, and understanding that adaptation is the absolute key in this rapidly changing society.
I’m Albi and this is my journey to embracing a new lifestyle. Creating a world from scratch, taking from all the different templates available – customizing one that works the best. It’s continuous. It’s a struggle just like all else. It’s real.
Are you ready to experiment?
